Privacy Policy

Kalan (“we”, “us”, the “app”) is a personal budgeting app that shows you how much money you will have left at the end of each month. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We built Kalan to work with as little personal data as possible.

The short version. Kalan does not ask for your name, email, or phone number. We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. We use anonymous analytics and crash reporting to fix bugs and see which screens are used — never your amounts or item names. Your financial entries are stored under an anonymous account and are visible only to you.

1. Who we are

2. Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to function:

Budget data you enter. The income and expense items you create — their titles, amounts, payment day, start/end dates, reminder setting, and which payments you have marked as paid.
App preferences. Your chosen language, notification setting, and time zone.
Anonymous account identifier. When you open Kalan, we create an anonymous account so your data can sync and be restored. This is a random ID — it is not tied to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal identity.
Purchase status. If you buy Premium, our payment provider tells us whether your one-time purchase is active, so we can unlock premium features.
Anonymous usage and crash data. Which screens you open and which actions you take (for example that an item was added, and whether it was income or expense), plus crash reports and basic device information such as model, operating system version, and app version. These reports contain no item names and no amounts, and are not linked to your account.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, or advertising identifiers. Kalan does not track you across other apps or websites.

3. How we use your information

To store your budget and show what remains at the end of each month.
To sync your data across your devices and restore it if you reinstall.
To send local payment reminders on your device (only if you enable them).
To provide and verify premium features.
To keep the app secure and prevent abuse.
To diagnose crashes and understand which features are used, so we can improve the app.

4. Where your data is stored

Your budget data and preferences are stored using Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore). Data is protected in transit and at rest and, because of our access rules, is readable only by your own anonymous account. A copy is also cached on your device so the app works offline.

5. Notifications

Payment reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Kalan does not use remote push notifications, and reminder content never leaves your phone. You can turn reminders off at any time in Settings or in your system settings.

6. Purchases

Premium is a one-time purchase handled by RevenueCat together with the Apple App Store. Payments are processed by Apple; we never see your card details. RevenueCat processes your anonymous purchase information to manage your premium status. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy.

7. Third-party services

Google Firebase — authentication, database, and app integrity (App Check). See Firebase Privacy.
Google Analytics for Firebase & Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous usage statistics and crash diagnostics. Advertising identifier (IDFA) collection and ad personalisation are switched off, so this data is never used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
RevenueCat & Apple App Store — purchase management and payments.

We do not use advertising networks.

8. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. We share information only with the service providers listed above, strictly to operate the app, or where required by law.

9. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete an item it is removed from our database. To delete all of your data, remove your entries or contact us at kalanbudgetapp@gmail.com and we will erase the data associated with your anonymous account.

10. Your rights

Depending on your region (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Kalan includes a built-in export feature, and you can contact us to exercise any of these rights. Because accounts are anonymous, we may be unable to identify your data without information from your device.

11. Children

Kalan is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
